Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin and Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum on Tuesday announced the passing of Sgt. Craig Johnson, who was shot multiple times early Monday morning. Officer Aurash Zarkeshan is in stable condition according to TPD officials. Both were shot during a traffic stop. Suspected shooter David Ware has been arrested and charged with murder, according to police.
At the press conference, held at TPD's Mingo Valley Division headquarters, Franklin said he had presented the Purple Heart to Johnson's family. Johnson served as an overnight supervisor and was a 15-year veteran of the police department.
A patrol car memorial for both officers has been set up in the parking lot. Supporters continue to leave notes, flags, balloons and more mementos.
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 93 and TPD have set up a benevolence fund in support of the officers and their families. Donations can be made here.
