Tribute to Sam Shepard

The University of Tulsa Theatre Department will present A Tribute to Sam Shepard, featuring two one-act plays written by the late beloved actor and playwright. Ten-time Obie Award winner and Pulitzer Prize winner for drama, Sam Shepard provided a rich variety of plays that comment on the state of the world and call into question who we are when our future is uncertain.

These student-directed/designed one-act plays capture the heart and spirit of questioning individual identity, ultimately tying the two stories together. Fool for Love takes place between two people trapped together in a hotel room. Each one fears abandonment almost as equally as they fear the reality of truth and their dependence on one another. Action plays out in an abandoned cabin on a post-apocalyptic holiday as four people ponder their identities and the uncertainty of the future. The combination of these plays honors the loss of Sam Shepard while remaining true to his emphasis on the search for who we are in times of crisis.

Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 12, 13, 14 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 15, at 2 p.m.  All performances will be held in Kendall Hall’s Chapman Theatre on the TU campus.  Admission is $15 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and college students, and $6 for TU students, faculty and staff.
