Description

Entertainment powerhouses, Machele Miller Dill and Rebecca Ungerman, join forces to create an exciting new musical for young actors. Artistic Director, Ungerman, ends her time with SCT with a socko, boffo smash!

Spotlight Children’s Theatre presents ‘Abuela’s Tales,’ book and lyrics by Machele Miller Dill, music and lyrics by Rebecca Ungerman, who also produces and directs. Performances are May 12 & 19 at 7:30, May 13, 14, 20 & 21 at 2pm. ‘Abuela’s Tales’ is presented in English and Spanish.

“I am overjoyed to present the first musical by Miller Dill and Ungerman at Spotlight Children’s Theatre! Machele and I have been working for months and have created a story that incorporates themes of bullying, multigenerational families under one roof and cultural assimilation pressures. It is a powerful, sweet and funny book and the songs are new fables set to infectiously delightful tunes. As with ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ or ‘My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding,’ as Abuela celebrates her family’s Mexican heritage, we celebrate all cultures. I can think of no better show to close out my time with SCT than this original, bilingual, charming musical, written with my treasured friend, who also happens to be the finest theatrical professional I know.” – Rebecca Ungerman

‘Aubela’s Tales’ features a cast of local talent, including kids ages six to sixteen, the 4th grade Spanish teacher from Zarrow and local actress and singer, Michelle Cullom, as Abuela. This children’s musical takes its subject matter straight from today’s headlines and wraps them in a wonderful musical about always being exactly who you are, no matter what.
