HumanNature: Photography Workshop with Dan Musgrave
Thursday, January 24, 2 - 3:30 pm
Think of the average American home: climate controlled, pest free, and human centric. Yet, as Jeff Goldblum playing Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park notes, "Life finds a way." Ants get into kitchens, bats roost in attics, raccoons pilfer trashcans, toads hop through gardens, and plants shoot up through the smallest cracks in the concrete. In this workshop, we will practice presence, focusing on one sense at a time, and employ photography (or phoneography) to document the intersections of the natural with the human-made, even right outside the door. From these observations, we will explore how the written word can convey the complexity and abundance of these meetings of humanity and nature. The hope is to generate both awareness and appreciation for the complexity of all life at a time when the existence of numerous global ecologies are precarious, if not under dire threat of being erased completely. Please bring your own camera or smart phone. No experience required.
