Description

join us Friday February 2nd for another fabulous exhibit featuring Tulsa's own Marjorie Atwood, 'The Gilded Gaze'.  we'll have light refreshments, full bar and live music!

MARJORIE ATWOOD IS A CONTEMPORARY PAINTER CURRENTLY BASED IN OKLAHOMA WHO HAS STUDIED ART IN NEW YORK AND SAN FRANCISCO.  THROUGH THE USE OF HER SIGNATURE GOLD AND SILVER LEAF BACKGROUNDS AND EXCEPTIONAL USE OF PATTERN, MARJORIE INCORPORATES THE FEMALE FIGURE IN VARIOUS FORMS THAT REPRESENT THE MYTHICAL AND CONTEMPORARY WOMAN IN VARIOUS STATES OF EXISTENCE.  WHEN NOT WORKING IN HER TULSA STUDIO IN THE HISTORIC KENDALL WHITTIER NEIGHBORHOOD, MARJORIE CAN BE FOUND TEACHING ART AT THE TULSA GIRLS ART SCHOOL.

“MY PAINTINGS ARE ABOUT STORY TELLING AND BEAUTY.  THE THEMES IN MY WORK OFTEN EXPLORE THE POWER OF FEMININE ENERGIES AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE WORLD AROUND THEM.  BEAUTY IN ART CAN BE A REFUGE FROM HUMAN CHAOS AND DEVASTATION, FROM THE HELPLESSNESS THAT THE PROCESS OF MORTALITY INFLICTS ON OUR EFFORTS TO DO WHAT WE KNOW WE MUST DO BUT FEEL WE CAN NEVER DO ADEQUATELY.  BEAUTY CAN HOLD OUR GAZE, ALLOWING US TO SEE AN ISSUE OR PROBLEM.  I BELIEVE THAT TWO OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT BEING AN ARTIST ARE BEING OPEN AND BEING CURIOUS.”
