Breakfast club

Tulsa has no shortage of start-your-day-right cafés, brunch spots and other early-riser locales.

DOWNTOWN WORKING BREAKFAST

Dilly Deli’s version of green eggs and ham features hash browns, spinach, pesto, prosciutto, Parmesan cheese, sundried tomatoes and two fried eggs. Dilly Deli

I’ll order anything named in honor of Dr. Seuss. Dilly Deli’s version of green eggs and ham features hash browns, spinach, pesto, prosciutto, Parmesan cheese, sundried tomatoes and two fried eggs. Other popular dishes include the Petey Pie (homemade corned beef hash, two eggs and toast or a biscuit) and rich brioche French toast with maple syrup. Rotating weekend specials include Creole Crab Benedict — an English muffin topped with crab cakes, poached eggs and spicy Creole hollandaise, served with crispy hash browns. Breakfast: 7-11 a.m., Monday- Friday; 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday; 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday. 402 E. Second St., 918-938-6382, www.dillydelitulsa.com

Boston Avenue Grille

The prime downtown location of this casual breakfast and lunch spot offers a limited breakfast menu (croissant and biscuit sandwiches, assorted muffins, sausage rolls and a breakfast burrito) at the restaurant, but the Grille has plenty of catering options. Fruit platters, muffin trays and hot quiche, to name a few, are available for morning meetings or other events any day of the week. Breakfast: 7-10:30 a.m., Monday- Friday. 15 E. Fifth St., First Place Tower, 918-392-7171, www.bostonavenuegrille.com

Atlas Grill

Owner Jake Robinson operates the Atlas Grill in a former coffee shop inside the highly art deco lobby of the Atlas Life Building. Eggs, omelets, French toast and breakfast   burritos are the mainstays. Try the omelet stuffed with homemade pimento cheese (three kinds of cheese with roasted peppers). Atlas Grill also sells market items to go and provides catering to local businesses and individuals. Brunch: 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast: 7-9:30 a.m., Monday-Friday. 415 S. Boston Ave., 918-583-3111, www.newatlasgrill.com

GRAB AND GO

Old School Bagel Café’s “Healthy Start” breakfast bagel includes tomato, spinach, ham, white cheddar and egg whites on a jalapeño cheddar bagel. Old School Bagel Café

Joe Trizza, along with his brother, Scott, and friend, Pauly Sorrentino (formerly owners of New York Bagel Co.), brought water-boiled bagels back to town. Baked fresh daily, the bagels undergo a process that begins at 3 a.m. Old School boasts, “they’re real and they’re spectacular,” referring to the bagels, of course. Grab a dozen to go, or stay for a bagel sandwich. I often choose the Brooklyn Bomber, served hot with pastrami, mozzarella cheese and spicy mustard. 6:30 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday- Thursday; 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday- Saturday; 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunday. 3723 S. Peoria Ave., 918-743-7400, www.oldschoolbageltulsa.com

Merritt’s Bakery

Larry and Bobbie Merritt purchased The Cake Box, a 450-square-foot bakery on 15th Street, in 1979 and turned it into a multi-site, citywide business. Merritt’s has been making birthday and wedding cakes since, but the three Tulsa stores specialize in mouthwatering displays of cookies, cupcakes and dozens of other baked goods. Breakfast offerings include coffee cake, muffins, Danish and doughnuts, as well as a few savory dishes. 6 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday- Saturday. Three locations citywide, www.merrittsbakery.com

OK Country Donut Shoppe

Customers line up early at this south Tulsa doughnut shop for owner Shine Kim’s signature treats —doughnuts in every shape (she has more than 500 in her repertoire) and color imaginable — as well as sausage rolls, jelly doughnuts and other doughnut shop standbys. We have eaten a pink octopus, a green clover and a curly caterpillar, to name but a few. 5:30-11 a.m., Monday- Saturday. 8048 S. Yale Ave., 918-493-6455, www.okcountrydonutshoppe.com

Panera Bread

There are two sides to this bakery chain: a casual café that serves soup, salad and sandwiches, and the bakery, which offers up fresh, baked-from-scratch bread, muffins, bagels and loads of other pastries and breakfast treats. I love the Cobblestone — cinnamon-raisin bread dough mixed with chunks of apples and spices, topped with streusel and white icing. 6 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Saturday; 7 a.m.-8 p.m., Sunday. Several locations citywide, www.panerabread.com

Ann’s Bakery

Celebrating 75 years in 2013, this longtime favorite (which survived a devastating fire in 2007) is Tulsa’s oldest bakery. Takeout treats include sausage rolls, quick breads (pumpkin, pineapple and orange pecan), Danish and doughnuts, most of which are available by the dozen or on a tray. Ann’s also specializes in celebration and wedding cakes, as well as decorated cookies, fruit pies and cake balls. 7 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday- Saturday. 7 N. Harvard Ave., 918-834-2345, www.annsbakery.com

Antoinette Baking Co.

French macaron baker Molly Martin and co-owner Andrea Mohn have had people in line for their Macaron Pop-Up Shops … now we can get them daily! Antoinette Baking Co. hits Brookside this month when Martin promises scones, sweetbreads and the like, in addition to specials such as ebelskivers, Swedish pancakes and breakfast tartines. I’m looking forward to the blue corn and lavender pancakes. 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday- Saturday; 3305 S. Peoria Ave., 918-808-0875, www.antoinettebakingco.com
