TYPros annual Next/Now Art Show
Members of Tulsa's Young Professionals showcase their artistic talent at Gilcrease Museum. Plus, other art happenings this month.
Tulsa's Young Professionals (TYPros) and Gilcrease Museum bring us the fourth annual Next/Now Art Show, which will be held at the museum for the first time. This show features artists between the ages of 21 to 40, who are members of TYPros, with works on a variety of themes.
“Brand-spanking new art and sculpture by locals will be on display as well as an engaging performance by a local band,” says Grace Grothaus, local artist and planning committee member.
TYPros devised the event as a way to diversify its membership and showcase young artists’ work.
“The members wanted more diversity,” TYPros Executive Director Chris Oden explains. “This is just one of our efforts to reach out and get other types of personalities and occupations involved with our group. I think that is what makes us exciting — having the diversity of everyone and experiencing the different aspects each person brings to the organization.
“But the show isn’t just about getting more artists involved; it’s also about celebrating young artists and helping to give them the recognition and exposure they might not otherwise get.
“Furthermore, it’s just a great event for all of our members to mingle in an artistic environment and support the work of their fellow young professionals. And the art on show is at a nice price point for our members, giving them the opportunity to start or add to their own art galleries.”
Oden says the event also will add an unexpected element this year, but she holds back on any details.
“You’ll just have to show up to find out,” she says.
