Five years ago, you may have seen Teri Bowers as an anchor on NewsChannel 8’s “Good Morning Oklahoma.” And if you’re a longtime Tulsan, you will remember that she and her husband, NewsChannel 8 meteorologist Frank Mitchell, made news themselves when he proposed on air in 1995.
But after almost 18 years as a television reporter and anchor, she left the business to better balance family and career commitments.
Today, Bowers works as both COO of Oklahoma Aquarium and executive director of the Oklahoma Aquarium Foundation. Surrounded by an “incredible” staff, Bowers says that she feels at home at the aquarium.
“(The aquarium) is an educational resource for children and adults, so that’s very exciting for me,” she says. “It’s a driver of tourism. The staff is amazing — I literally fell in love with the staff. I’m really more of a people person than a fish person.”
