Tasty dog bites

Try one of these area restaurants for an original Tulsa frank.

Coney I-Lander

Made the same since 1926, the cheese coneys at Coney I-Lander, a branch of the original Coney Island Hot Weiner Shop downtown, are the eatery’s biggest seller. Topped with mustard, chili, raw onion and grated Coneyscheese, cheese coneys cost only $1.52, or try a regular coney without cheese for $1.38. Red pepper and Louisiana hot sauce are available upon request.

Hours: 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday-Saturday; 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday. 3919 S. Peoria Ave., 742-7259

Coney Beach

Choose from 300 possible hot dog combinations and more than 50 specialty toppings, with chips or fries included. Several all-beef gourmet dog menu favorites are the Classic Dog, a quarter-pound frankfurter served on a freshly steamed bun, and Da’ Chicago Dog, with mustard, sweet relish, onion, tomato wedge, pickle spear, sport peppers and celery salt. Feeling like a turkey dog instead? They’re available at no extra charge.

Hours: 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday-Monday. 11089 S. Memorial Drive, 394-3647, www.coneybeach.net

QuikTrip

Head to your nearest QuikTrip for a quick and easy bite of a juicy hot dog. The all-beef hot dogs are $1.19 each or two for $2. Hungry customers can add relish, ketchup and mustard for no extra charge and pick up to-go packets of chopped onion and jalapeno relish. Corn dogs for $1.19 and other hot-and-ready to-go snack items also are easy and accessible at QT Kitchens.

Soundpony

It may be well known as a bar and music venue, but Soundpony also has developed a name for its free hot dogs before 9 p.m. every day during happy hour. After 9 p.m., hot dogs cost $2, but co-owner Josh Gifford insists that because they are cooked on a rotisserie, the longer they cook, the better. Soundpony also offers veggie dogs upon request, and all dogs come with relish, ketchup, mustard and mayo.

Hours: 3 p.m.-2 a.m., Monday-Saturday; 5 p.m.-2 a.m., Sunday. 409 N. Main St., 582-7669
