Get the picture: Tulsa United Film Festival
The 8th Annual Tulsa United Film Festival is just around the corner.

An event that’s sure to be one of the best and brightest local film happenings of the season is fast upon us. The 8th Annual Tulsa United Film Festival is scheduled for July 29 through Aug. 1 at – where else? – the Circle Cinema (12 South Lewis). Lots of promising movies are set to be screened, and some screenings are already sold out, so if the idea of catching some new and/or provocative indie films grabs you (with some of them of local vintage, to boot), then it’s best to get your tickets sooner than later.
It’s great to have the United Film Festival (UFF) back in Tulsa for another go. Great, that is, for a few reasons: (1) This year’s line-up looks terrific. (2) Some of the films in said line-up are the work of Tulsa or Oklahoma natives (or have a strong local appeal). (3) The festival itself was started in this city, by a Tulsan, and has steadily and impressively grown over the years. The 2nd Annual San Francisco United Film Festival was held earlier this summer, for example, and the UFF bandwagon will be making stops later this year in Chicago, New York, and London.
The “united” in the title, by the way, refers to how each festival strives to unite films of various backgrounds, diverse themes, different styles, etc. The UFF was created by filmmaker and producer Jason Connell, an alumnus of Edison High School, Tulsa Community College and Oklahoma State University who’s now based in Los Angeles. Click here to read a Q&A with Connell from the February 2010 edition of TulsaPeople.
And speaking of Q&As, another thing that makes the UFF great (in my opinion, at least) is that many of the screenings include Q&A sessions with the filmmakers. Moreover, award-winning short films will precede most if not all of the feature films in the series. (Always a plus.)
It’s going to be a mighty nice run of movies; I encourage everyone to check it out.
That said, I won’t attempt to describe each and every film in this year’s Tulsa UFF (there are simply too many), but you can click here to view the complete list of scheduled movies.
By way of recommendation, however, click through to the next page to begin a rundown of some standouts and highlights from the upcoming festival.
