President, Robson Cos. Inc.; 2009 chairman of the board, National Association of Home Builders
Joe Robson has seen a modicum of America. Elected the 2006 vice president/secretary of the Washington, D.C.-based National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), he has traveled to all the major cities — New York, Chicago, Miami, San Diego, Dallas — and minor cities — Fargo, N.D.; Farmington, N.M.; Brainerd, Minn. He learns their unique lifestyles, what makes them tick, what drives their economy and what they want and need in housing.
As president of Robson Cos. Inc., developer of Forest Ridge, and now 2009 chairman of the board for the NAHB, Robson plans to see a little more.
I’m excited about being chairman of the board for the National Association of Home Builders because it’s an opportunity to make changes at a critical time in our industry. It is a historic time, and it’s an opportunity to revamp the financial system in this country, as well as home building. It’s a unique time and a unique opportunity to be in the position.
For me, Forest Ridge is a dream come true. When you had a vision 20 years ago and then to see it come to fruition — the struggles you get through to get it off the ground and see it today — it’s very gratifying. It’s something to look back on and be very proud of.
Since its conception, I’ve watched Forest Ridge grow into a community that will stand the test of time and be a place where people want to live, not just now but in the future.
To become the NAHB chairman took lots of meetings.
As NAHB chairman, I will be the spokesperson for the housing market.
Nationally, the housing market is in a depression. But every market is local. So even though the national market numbers are awful, there are still good markets isolated throughout the country.
Tulsa is a great place to live because it’s a dynamic community. It still has its best years in front of it. The people of Tulsa are giving and concerned about their community.
I see the future of Tulsa’s housing market as being very bright.
When not working, I enjoy golfing, swimming, hunting and fishing.
My favorite room in my house is my living room. Because that’s where the TV is.
