My habitat: Dana Gilpin

Artist, teacher and pet rescuer

Gilpin often draws inspiration from her pets, which include her dog, Henry, and cat, She She.

I love my studio because it is my home, and this is where my heart is, along with my dogs, cats and parakeets.

I take a serious approach to my work — craftsmanship, not perfectionism. In my studio, I can make up my own rules.

It is the place where I find my inspiration — from my sweet dogs and cats, and the color, whimsy and humor that surround me.

I am happiest when I am playing in my studio. I guess I should say, when I am working in the studio … but it is so enjoyable, how can that be work?
