Spring fashion must-haves
Fashion consultant Shannon Schroeder shares her tips for shopping this spring.
What is your list of must-have items for this spring? My absolute top must-have item for the season is a white blazer. For as many seasons as the blazer has been in style, you have seen it alter from year to year. This season, white is the new black. It won’t be hard to find one —they’ll be everywhere — and you can pair this with anything.
Tailored menswear or harem pant. These are great because they’re lightweight and so different from the black riding pant worn practically every day during the winter.
Dresses or blouses in soft peach, pink and nude tones. These are the top colors of the season and I love them because the look is flattering on everyone.
What items will help transition one’s wardrobe from winter to spring? Bright-colored cardigans and lightweight scarves. I recommend mixing these colorful items with your wintery neutrals, such as grays, tans and blacks with yellow, pink or blue.
Tan trenchcoat. This staple is huge trend now but has been a must-have for decades.
What items should you buy now that will last through summer? Sunglasses, sandals and beauty products. I’m an instant-gratification girl, so if I buy something, I want to wear it now! Since it’s still a little chilly, you can buy and wear these without feeling guilty because you’ll still be wearing them in August.
What do you consider the top “investment pieces” — what is worth spending the most money on? Shoes, purses and jackets. These items you can wear every day, season to season, and potentially last many years. If you have a quality shoe, purse and jacket, you can throw those on over an outfit from Target and still feel like a million bucks.
What’s your best shopping tip? I make a Top 10 list going into each season of items that I want. This helps keep me focused since there are so many different kinds of trends, you can’t do them all.
When shopping, buy things you feel you really love and can’t live without. Because if you don’t love it now, you never really will.
