Drillers - Special section - Ballpark food
ONEOK Field will offer much more than peanuts and Cracker Jacks, with food offerings ranging from Frito chili pie to tofu turkey hotdogs.
Peanuts! Get your peanuts here!
Peanuts! Get your — Philly cheese steak here?
That’s right. With the new ONEOK Field comes a wide range of new foods for fans to enjoy as the Drillers step up to the plate.
“We’ll definitely have a wide variety compared to the old ballpark,” says Jason Wilson, director of food services. “With the new ballpark, we will actually have the ability to have all kinds of new choices.”
In fact, the ballpark will be equipped with three large concession areas and a separate section for portable carts with specialty foods.
“The large concession stand on the first-base side will probably have more points of sale than the old ballpark had altogether,” Wilson says.
These concession areas will be ready to take on hungry fans with about 20 specialty foods. But do not worry, dedicated Drillers fan — old favorites will still be available, such as the half-pound burger.
The popular Frito chili pie will also stick around for the new season. Originally from Michigan, Wilson had never tasted or even heard of a Frito chili pie before coming to Tulsa.
“But I heard from others that it had to come back this year,” he says.
Aside from the concession stands, a separate area for portable specialty carts will offer even more choices on the third-base side of the field. Here, fans can choose from a cart selling Philly cheese steak or the sausage cart with foot-long hot dogs and bratwurst topped with peppers and onions. A barbecue cart will also be cooking brisket sandwiches for attendees to enjoy as they root for the home team. Even a Mexican cart, similar to Qdoba and Chipotle offerings, will be there, allowing fans to pick and choose what they want on their tasty treat.
If the barbecue, peppers and Mexican spices leave you craving something to quench the heat, walk right over to the ice cream concession stand. An ice cream selection for those who are lactose intolerant will also be offered at this stand.
Wilson wanted to make sure he covered all his — er — bases when he began deciding what would be served at the new ballpark. During the planning phase, he even sat down with a group of vegans and vegetarians from the Tulsa area.
“I found out they just want to eat the same types of things everyone else eats,” Wilson says.
To cater to these fans, the new menu will include vegan and vegetarian burgers as well as a tofu turkey hotdog.
While general admission fans will have plenty of options from which to choose, some foods will be available only for those who bought the already sold-out club seats.
“You can get in-seat service with a more specialized menu that will include items like panini sandwiches,” Wilson says.
These fans will also have access to the Tycoon’s Stadium Club bar in the suites.
For those who decide to go for the luxurious life in these suites, a menu that includes barbecue shrimp, fruit and veggie trays, a dessert cart and a martini cart will be within their reach.
With all the choices this season, your stomach will surely be grumbling “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” every time the Drillers play at their new home field.
