Home by design

For the past month the editors, photographers and designers at TulsaPeople have been working furiously to compile the program for this year’s Designer Showcase Home. As a sponsor of the event we are treated to a sneak-peek party in which we are able to view the home, and let me tell you first-hand — this year is one you do not want to miss.

Not only is the home itself a work of art, but the designers have truly outdone themselves. I think we worked hard on the program, but I can only imagine the hours logged by some of Tulsa’s most talented designers to make this showcase possible.

As is usually the case when someone owns the home, the house has a notably cohesive flow. All the rooms play well off one another – the same colors, tones, complimentary fabrics, etc. are used making the overall result very appealing.

Last year’s showcase “home” was actually a boutique hotel. This year the tour has resumed the practice of renovating a historic home. This year’s showcase – the McGuire-Hood house – is located in one of Tulsa’s first wealthy neighborhoods on tree-lined streets full of oil baron mansions.  In fact, the home was the first built in the historic Maple Ridge neighborhood. The designers and homeowners have taken every effort possible to maintain the home’s original integrity while bringing it stylishly into the 21st century.

The home opens to the public this week and will remain so until May 20 and all proceeds benefit The Foundation for Tulsa Schools. I highly suggest you visit soon as you may wish to make a repeat visit. And, don’t forget Mother’s Day – this makes the perfect treat for that special woman in your life. The showcase offers a special Mother’s Day brunch with champagne, cake balls and a full buffet. They had me at cake balls.
