Ghosts at The Collective Saturday night
Bart Ford of Under the Mooch — your one stop shop for all things indie — apparently has a thing for Billy Joel. But, says Ford, this is not unconditional adulation but "the Pre-Christie Brinkley Billy Joel ... before 'Uptown Girl' ... 'Glass Houses' is probably my favorite album." Added Ford, "It's probably the first music I listened to. I was around 2." This is also a birthday party of sorts for Ford, "My birthday was Monday but this was the only time I could do it so..." So, he has lined up Ghosts to play an homage/celebration of Mr. Joel from 1971 to 1982 at The Collective, Saturday, January 31. Opening up the night of birthday wishes and slurred renditions of "Piano Man" will be the Lunar City Fireflies, a four-piece band that looks like they have a sense of humor and their own sense of music. Catch all of Mr. Joel's catalog along with Sir Elton's as well at the BOK Center on March 17, 2009 I have always had a fondness for "Big Shot" by Joel. Curious to hear anybody else's favorite Joel tune (fromany era). Faves?
