Post show: The Pretenders at the Brady
The Pretenders took the stage at The Brady Theater Sunday night as everything from Vic Demone’s “On the Street Where You Live” to “My Fair Lady” played over the speakers.
Chrissie Hynde and company quickly got to work. From their classics, to their lesser known but newer material from the band’s 2008 release, “Break Up the Concrete," the band played flawlessly. Their minimalist set allowed the music to be the focus rather than pyrotechnics and video images.
I think the Brady might have the best acoustics in Oklahoma and it showed.
I missed the first few songs from opening act American Bang, so I cannot speak to what happened before we took our seats but, from the crowd's response, the final three songs were the most popular.
Those guys rocked but, it took some time for folks to realize they were at a live music show and not at the philharmonic. They sound like if Kings of Leon listened to the Cult/Black Crows rather than U2 and Oasis. They were a bit under appreciated at first but the Pretenders’ crowd finally caught up to their frenetic energy.
