CNS at the Mercury Lounge
The Wichita band Carrie Nation & The Speakeasy has been spending more nights in Tulsa recently than Kansas. And it is beginning to show — crowds are getting what this side show is bringing to town. Influenced by everything but easy listening and the pan flute, a single song might have country, Americana, jazz, punk, ska and bluegrass qualities — to name a few.
But it’s not all turbo-charged insanity — the band can bring the lights down, too, with beautiful, melancholy tunes that turn your dance-floor sweat into introspective tears.
The band’s musical weapons of choice include banjoes, a drum kit, standup bass and a glorious trombone.
It all goes off this Saturday night. Tickets are $5 at the door. Ages 21 and over only. Visit mercurylounge918.com.
