Norman Music Festival

The “Indie Music Capitol of Oklahoma” moves for the night from downtown Tulsa to Norman, Okla.

There are bands from all over the musical spectrum. Brandon Jenkins’ country to OKC’s happy, trippy, electro-indie Crocodile.

But the main event is a bit of a shocker.

of Montreal takes the stage at 10:30 Saturday night. If you are not familiar, slap yourself, then get on the turnpike and start driving for Norman. They are fronted by Kevin Barnes and have ripped the mantle of Most Progressive Indie Band from The Flaming Lips and forged an entirely new path. Their music is surreal, bizarre and incredible.

But this is not the only band playing by any means. Nor the only form of entertainment. There are 80 bands, a room full of comedians and book/poetry readings as well.

There is even a Norman Music Festival channel at Pandora.com.

You can find schedules and maps here.

Watch out for the highway patrol on the stretch of road from OKC to Norman.
