Ring in Mardi Gras with a King Cake

Ring in Mardi Gras with a King Cake

Tuesday, March 8, is Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday. Honor your inner Cajun by sharing a traditional King Cake from Merritt’s Bakery. The large, braided cake ($22) is filled with your choice of cinnamon, cream cheese or strawberry filling, and iced and decorated in the representative carnival colors of green (faith), gold (power), and purple (justice).

As the cake is cut, each person looks to see if his piece contains the small baby figurine. The person who finds the baby brings a King cake to the next celebration. New to Merritt’s this year are individual cinnamon-flavored King Cakes ($3.50), also dressed with traditional Mardi Gras colors and topped with the baby.

Merritt’s is taking pre-orders for the cakes, both large and small, and has them at all three locations through Fat Tuesday, March 8.
