The next Iron Chef

Last week I was honored to participate as a culinary judge at The Blank Canvas event honoring Billie and Howard Barnett, the proceeds of which support Youth Services of Tulsa. Along with both a silent and live auction, seven of Tulsa's best chefs - Tuck Curren of Biga and Local Table, Michael Funk of The Polo Grill, Justin Thompson of The Brasserie and Sonoma Bistro, Michael Fusco of Michael Fusco's Riverside Grille, Seth Smith of Taste Catering, Tim Fitzgerald of Timothy Sean Fitzgerald Catering and Zahidah Hyman of Keo - competed in an "Iron Chef"-style cooking competition. The chefs were given a "mystery ingredient" - mushroooms - and 30 minutes to prepare an appetizer. After a difficult judging session, Justin Thompson was heralded the winner, with a gorgeous plate of a duo of mushroom salads and an amazing delicious mushroom potsticker!
